Sabine Strasser
She received her Ph.D. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna in 1994 and completed her habilitation (post-doctoral thesis) in 2004. She is associate professor at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara and senior researcher of FEMCIT (Gendered Citizenship in Multicultural Europe, 6th EU Framework programme) at the University of Vienna. Her research interests include migration, transnationalism, multiculturalism, Islam in Turkey and Europe, and feminist anthropology. Her publications, lectures and research projects continuously focus on questions of globalization, equality and diversity.
She was a visiting scholar at the Stanford University 1996, at the Gender Institute of the London School of Economics in 1999/2000, and at the Middle East Technical University Ankara in 2001. She was awarded a Hertha Firnberg Scholarship in 1999, was Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Gender Studies at the University of Vienna in 2005-2006 and has taught at different Austrian and European universities. She is a member of the scientific board of the Berghahn Journal AME (Anthropology in the Middle East).
